About the Age Difference Calculator

  • Rules with sourcesMonth ends and 29 February, linked to the law.
  • Tested examplesEvery example on the page is an automated test.

What it does

  • Gives the age gap between two birth dates and says who is older.
  • Works out someone's age on any past or future day.
  • Shows the same gap in total months, weeks, days and hours.
  • Finds the next birthday for each date.
  • Lets you copy the result or share a link that opens the same calculation.

How the results are checked

Splitting a span of time into years, months and days needs a rule for month ends and 29 February birthdays, and not every calculator uses the same one. The rules used here are written out under the calculator and on the home page, with links to the laws and references they come from.

Page and calculator can't disagree

Every worked example and every row of the quick-reference table on the home page is also an automated test of the calculation, so the page and the calculator can't quietly disagree.

If a result looks wrong to you, please send both dates and the answer you expected through the contact page.

What people use it for

  • Comparing the ages of partners, siblings or friends.
  • Finding how old someone was, or will be, on the day of an event.
  • Counting the time between two events, such as an anniversary or a family history date.
